How Remote Work Has Changed Pre and Post COVID-19

It was on the 11th of March 2020 when we first heard the declaration of the World Health Organization (WHO) about COVID-19 as a pandemic. It is not a usual word that we hear in our everyday lives before. But once heard, it brings unreasonable fear and belief that it will lead to unnecessary suffering and worst of all, death.

Many have lost their jobs since hundreds of millions of people were forced to live through lockdowns, and many have decided to shift abruptly to working from home just to be able to provide food for their families.

Coronavirus has changed the work system – and we could say, permanently. The post-COVID-19 would never be the same again as the pre-pandemic workplace. In the aftermath of COVID-19, it is already expected that three-quarters of on-premise workers will transition to working from home permanently.

However, we can see that some companies continue to practice the in-house work arrangement because of some important reasons. But evidently, there were changes in the way offices are organized.

Now, let us start looking at how the pandemic has successfully normalized remote work. All of us know that work will never be the same again. However, most employees appreciate flexibility, especially for those who are spending a long time commuting. But we should neglect the fact that we still need face-to-face interaction to solve complex challenges and build a relationship with one another. Most organizations nowadays must rethink how to structure their working arrangements without diffusing work-life boundaries.

Now, workplaces are distributed in homes, offices, and other satellite offices. Companies are getting their staff virtual ready. Proper training and collaboration were simultaneously started and provided to assure a smooth transition. With regards to technology, information is saved on the cloud and different applications and online tools are readily available to provide seamless virtual collaboration.
